2010 predictions for Natural Search Engine Optimisation

10th December 2009 by Andrew Milne

Before you ask, I don’t have a crystal ball or understand astrology, however, we live in compelling times and the following post is an attempt to predict what may happen in 2010 in respect of organic search engine optimisation.

  • The recent appearance of “Realtime Search” for some results in Google is perhaps a sign of things to come as search engines seek innovative ways to incorporate social media comment. Prediction – more to come.
  • Can we expect another big Google Update to keep everyone on their toes? Prediction – Absolutely.
  • Will Page Rank Disappear before our eyes? Prediction – I wouldn’t put money on it, but I don’t think so.
  • Are the other search engine players actually going to challenge Google’s dominance? Prediction – No, if anything, they will probably become stronger, expect more innovative products to come out.
  • Is there going to be a new Social Media kid on the block? Prediction – likely.
  • Is 2010 going to be year of mobile search? How many times over the past 5 years have we heard from various commentators say that mobile search is going to take off. Prediction – Possibly, given the wider use of usable hand devices which are now available.
  • Can you the UK SEO service industry recover in 2010? Prediction – yes on the assumption the economy recovers, however, I predict there will be a larger gap developing between the bigger players and the small fry, many of whom may vanish altogether. This trend appears to be happening across most industries.
  • Will the UK Government tax us every time we search Google. Prediction – Definitely! How else are they going to fund the budget deficit shortfall, following yesterday’s announcements!

I hope the predictions give some food for thought, have a great new year!
