Automatically Generated SEO emails – the SEO scare email

I was contacted by one of my clients yesterday regarding an email they had received saying that their site didn’t have any search engine optimisation on and that my client should employ this SEO company to resolve the issues.

What was quite scary was that the email appeared to have been automatically generated and didn’t seem to have been sense checked.

My client was warned that the number of pages showing in the Google Index was too low, despite the Google Index being aware of all the pages on the site and this being in the thousands.  The wording of this element of the email indicated that more pages should be indexed by Google.  If all the pages are indexed in Google already, one wonders what this SEO company could possibly do to make this higher.

In addition the email made reference to the Google Link command, which as I blogged about last week, doesn’t work.  This gave my client a really low view of the number of in bound links that they had on their site, which when compared to their profile in Backlinkwatch and Yahoo Site Explorer was less than 1% of the links pointing to the site.

It might well be that these automatically generated emails are trying to help but the seem to generate more of a panic reaction in people receiving them, as they are quite misleading in terms of the position of the site in Google.

If you receive one of these emails it is a good idea to get the opinion of another SEO company before agreeing to use the company which emailed you, fundamentally this is a spam email and you should only buy SEO services from a professional SEO and not from spam emails.
