Despite some confusing data from Hitwise it seems that Bing has gained some market share in the month that is has been live.
I’ve been watching the results for our customers with interest over the last month, and it definitely looks to me as if Bing is gaining traffic, and it is Yahoo that it is creeping up on.
In the UK, Yahoo hasn’t commanded the number of visitors it does in the US for quite some time – I often see it languishing at a very poor 2-5% of traffic to a site. No wonder UK business owners are so focussed on their Google rankings – the two main competitors often manage to bring less than 10% of the search engine traffic to a website between them!
So I thought I would aggregate some data and see what the results were over the last 30 days:
Google 86.80%
Yahoo 6.04%
Bing 3.79%
Back last year, I did a similar comparison looking at MSN traffic, and found that the MSN/Live search share was 3.54%, so that has grown – if only slightly.
Of the sites I looked at, however, one third received more traffic from Bing than Yahoo during the measurement period. So Yahoo certainly has a challenge on their hands this side of the Atlantic.
