On 31st December 2008, Google updated the visible toolbar page rank scores across the web. This is three months after the last one, and the previous one was only 2 months before that (give or take a day). It would therefore seem that they are returning to a regular schedule of updates.
Although Page Rank isn’t a great measure, it is one of the few ‘other’ ranking/authority indications that we have, and it doesn’t show any signs of going away.
Whilst Google PageRank™ doesn’t have a direct impact on where a site appears
for a particular search, we do SEO for a wide variety of websites, and we do notice that getting a site the results it wants is far easier if it starts off as a PR4 or 5, than if it is a new site with a PR of 0 or 1. For a high Page Rank site we are modifying the way that Google sees the site, rather than making it visible in the first place.
So I expect that we will be looking out for the next update at about the end of March, even if it is an imprecise indicator of success.
