Google website tools offering content review
12th June 2008 by Emily Mace
Google’s free Webmaster tools now include a free content review service. This service identifies if Google came across any issues when crawling your site to list on it’s search results.
Once you’ve registered your site with Google Webmaster tools and verified it you can review the content of your website. Listed under the Diagnostics section of Google Webmaster tools, the Content review tool is quick and easy to use, and provides a downloadable list of information about problems on the site. This means that you have an easy to work from list of things that need changing.
The Content review tool enables you to easily see if the Meta information on your site is duplicated, missing or too short. Meta information is still important as the Meta Description is what is displayed in the Google search results for your page – which can be where people first hear about your site. Therefore, good Meta descriptions are key to driving more traffic to your website.
The content review on Google’s Webmaster Tools also enables you to see what content, if any, on your site that Google and other Search Engines can’t read. Readable content is very important to achieving a good search engine ranking as search engines, like Google, rank pages on the ‘relevancy’ of their content. Having a beautifully designed Flash page with lots of references to your key product in the Flash file is not going to help you rank on Google, because Google can’t see it, so doesn’t know you are relevant. Making sure there is plenty of Search Engine readable content on your site will help you to rank higher on Google and will drive more traffic to your site.
Running the Content review tool regularly will enable you to monitor any issues with your site that may hinder it being ranked as well as you might like on Google.
Added to the other webmaster tools available on Google, such as the Sitemap tool and the ability to see web crawl error, Google Webmaster Tools is offering some great services for your web
