Most people are aware of the two main areas on Google’s search engine results pages – the natural or organic listings shown in the main body of the page on the left-hand side and the “paid for” or sponsored listings down the right (and sometimes in a box at the top).
There is actually a third area on Google’s pages that should show on any search engine marketing campaign’s radar – the OneBox.
The OneBox is that area at the top of the page that Google places in results if it thinks it has something extra relevant to your search – it may be products from Google Base, or local businesses from Google Maps, news from Google News, etc. It is the section identified with the letter “H” in the image below:

As you can imagine – this is a great location to find yourself listed in – and it is not impossible to achieve. If you are an online retailer – you can make sure that your products are in Google Base. You could also add your business to the local listings in Google Maps.
It only takes a bit of effort on your part – but everything worth having usually does (especially when it comes to search engine optimisation).
