Measuring Blog Quality
Thu, 9 Oct 2008 11:16:30 by Joe Bursell

Back in July of this year aiderss appeared and is proving to be a useful tool.

Its an online service that enables you to score the value of any blog or news pages that you may want to subscribe to, but more than this you can register to use the ‘My Feeds’ section  to filter and import them, building a profile of the of content you like.

Aside from the value it can provide to a manic blog reader, someone with more feeds than a 200 storey baby care centre, it can give an instant snapshot of the value of your own blog.

By using the proprietary metric (PostRankTM) anyone can get an idea of the percieved quality of their blog.

Just by inserting your blog's URL into aiderss you get a snapshot showing how it stacks up against the following criteria:
Views: Pageviews within RSS readers and via AideRSS widgets
Clicks: Clicks within RSS readers and via AideRSS widgets
Comments: The number of comments on the item
del.icio.us: The number of bookmarks saved
Ma.gnolia: The number of bookmarks saved
Digg: The number of diggs on the item
Twitter: The number of tweets mentioning the item
Pownce: The number of times the item has been shared
Google Trackbacks: The number of links to the item on other websites
...there may be more but these are the ones they explicitly mention.

These metrics may not be everyones idea of what truly constitutes a blog's quality or value, but they are solid, quantifiable indicators- they're correlated and packaged beautifully, what more could you want?
