More on the Supplemental Index

Pete Posted in January about the Supplemental index in Google which Google told us had been removed from the search results.  In January Pete had been working with one of his SEO client’s sites and had seen this site recrawled following the development of the reputation of the domain with Google, this then saw an increase in rankings for the site in question.

I’ve also seen evidence of this during the last month.  The website of one of my clients is a relatively new domain that has no SEO history and no reputation in Google.  Following the SEO work on the website including optimisation, the introduction of a blog and lots of off page work, (link building, article and press release submission) we’ve seen the site go from not being ranked at all in search engines to having a good number of links and showing well in Google.  Following the website being removed from the supplemental index in the last month we have seen traffic from search engines increase by 95% – great for driving more business for the client.

I think this is more evidence that although “officially” there is no supplemental index there is still a delay in Google displaying site in the “main” search results, particularly if it is a brand new domain.  As Pete said, this supplemental index might not be as visible as before but it still seems to be alive and kicking.
