We've outgrown our offices. This is a great signal that we are doing things right and achieving fabulous SEO results for our clients. We have further growth plans too - with a marketing assistant and another PPC specialist joining next month.
The problem is, that we barely fit in our current office and there's no suitable office space left in Portsmouth. It seems that every spare office in Portsmouth over the past five years has been converted into residential properties (flats or houses). I was reading somewhere that there has been a 25% drop in office space in Portsmouth and Southsea over the past 2-3 years.
Some company's in the online marketing space run their businesses virtually. I can certainly see the benefits in this - having 4 offices on 4 continents means that we are pretty adept at working virtually when we need to. But in the UK, we like to see each other. We like to be in the same office and understand what each other is doing and share our successes and challenges with each other. You can get some great productivity working virtually. You can get some great SEO people on your team by removing location as a restriction in recruitment. But its really hard to get a great team-oriented environment by working virtually. It's hard to build a company culture, a soul, by working virtually. And I see this as a key attribute of working for and with Vertical Leap.
And so our search goes on - looking for a new home either in or near Portsmouth that will see us through the next 3-5 years of growth. For now, it looks like we may be invading each other's personal space for just a bit longer.
