No No!! Its the 5 th of November I hear you say.
But wait a brief trip to the local supermarket to get milk for the office triggered this blog creation. On entering the well know store for said milk for the tea thirsty search marketing piranhas back in the office I couldn’t help but notice that the Halloween and bonfire night paraphernalia had been demoted to a small shelf in the far corner of the store with mark ups on massive discounts….7-12 days before the events themselves. However the Christmas biscuits ( which I couldn’t resist) mince pies and even crackers found themselves in pride of place at the forefront of point of sale by the checkouts!! Its crazy I hear you shout whats next Easter stuff in December.
No these guys have a point get ahead of the competition.
It is a well know fact that the Christmas period is the busiest for consumer activity all over the globe. So cash in, Pay Per Click campaigns are a perfect way to target and prepare for the holiday shopping season. With strategically designed and well placed PPC campaigns your online business can benefit hugely from the few months of the mad Christmas buying cycle.
Remember that PPC Adwords campaigns need to be tested and then tested again so don’t delay start your seasonal campaigns early and believe me when I say this, but September isn’t too early. You really need to get the measure of what works before the real mad rush occurs, and get the upper hand on your competitors who think they can leave their Pay Per click campaigns until the last minute.
You need to be well prepared and know your market. I still keep the thought in my mind when creating Christmas campaigns that even my dear ol mum ( who can barely turn on her mobile phone) still manages to search out a good deal online and have it delivered in time for the big day. Online sales during this period increase dramatically, and as well as the normal online buyers the festive buyers dust off their Amiga’s and Buy Buy Buy.
Remember to create competitive ads, big up the delivery options ( free, 24 hour etc) make sure the item prices are competitive, include discounts or deals in your ad copy, test the content network, and remember not to turn campaigns off after the 25th. Think of all those people searching for bargains in the Jan sales make the most of them.
Finally I Ho Ho Hope you have a good Christmas.
