An ideal blog post is one that will appear in search results when someone is trying to find something out or fix an issue they are having. This makes blogs on these subjects great if you are one of only a few sources of the information.
Two of the most visited blogs on the Vertical Leap site are one about seeing Google.com US results from a different country and a Blogger fix. The first is something that people are continually trying to do, so it continues to receive a good number of visitors each month, despite now being fairly old. The second was a more temporary problem and initial visits were very high, but have now fallen off. This second one takes advantage of the fact that people search for very specific search terms – in this case the specific Blogger error code.
These types of blogs create a lot of visitors, but not so many direct conversions. Perhaps there seems to be little SEO benefit, because even those these are popular items, they didn’t exactly gain hundreds of incoming links. However, giving out this information which is valuable to people does have some benefits. These days, being a successful clickthrough for a search result is probably fed back into your domain authority, particularly in Google. Although the effect may be small, these things add together and incrementally, they all add to your domain’s position in the internet.
Also, creating content that helps people has its rewards in itself. It is good to feel that you are contributing to the big picture in the World Wide Web, and making someone’s day a little better. It is nice to be nice to coin a phrase.
