SEO Tips and Trends for Travel Websites

25th September 2008 by Kerry Dye

Over the past year, we’ve blogged a few times about search engine optimisation for travel sites.

Most recently Emily talked about SEO Blogging tips for travel sites.

And I talked about how the peak search engine traffic for travel related sites is still in January.

Last year I wrote extensively about how travel and tourism sites are turning to SEO for promotion.

There was some disillusion amongst the users of travel sites highlighted last year, but travel searches on the internet continue to be strong.

Compete.com’s blog is a good source of info on travel search volumes and traffic – there is a particularly good look at how Cheapflights.com increased their Google traffic last winter.

Recently, it was reported by Media Week that search engine marketing is due to boom in the UK (despite the credit crunch), with search expenditure rising by 30 per cent this year. Whether it’s PPC spend increases or increased investment in organic SEO, I’m guessing that the travel industry – from luxury hotels to local bed and breakfast places – will be amongst those participating.
