An important aspect of being able to make sales on a website is your reputation online.
With so much competition out there more and more users are becoming savvy to looking around various different sites to find the product they are looking for.
User Generated Content plays a big part in the decision making process for many users, so is something you should be taking into account when you are looking at your site. Good reviews will help you, and you could think about linking to them from your blog, it would also be worth adding a bookmark under your social bookmarking account. If there is anything bad out there, think about adding a comment to a blog or forum addressing the issues and trying to resolve them for the user in question. This will mean that if people do find the bad, they will see you have tried to resolve the issues and are keen to ensure your customers get the most from your service. Good customer service = more chance of a sale.
Getting a top 10 position for your keywords is not the end of the story. Check the listings in the top 20 for your keywords – are there any sites listed that discuss your products? If there review sites or blogs that discuss your products, or even your company, make sure you look at these sites, and see what people are saying about you.
There is a great tool I found yesterday called Serph that allows you to search for either a URL or a company/product. The Serph service then looks up what is being said about the term you have search on, and brings back results of content regarding this term. This is a quick and easy way to check out the online buzz about your company and products.
Using this tool in conjunction with your work on conversions and SEO will help you to ensure you are not only attracting visitors but that they form a good opinion of you.
