Search is Sexy
Sat, 24 Feb 2007 09:18:59 by Matt Hopkins

Here's something that you wouldn't necessarily expect to hear - but according to Hitwise, search engines have now overtaken porn sites in UK market share.

It seems that search is a growth industry and the seemingly ubiquitous adult-content web sites are now in decline. In January, search engines had a 21% year-on-year growth in terms of market share compared with a 14% decline by adult websites. Google and Yahoo are still the primary players in the UK market with MSN/Live Search and Ask.com a distant 3rd and 4th respectively.

This is great news for the market and for the search industry - proving that there are even more people out there using search engines to look for the products and services offered by our clients.. and that where once the mantra was that "sex sells", perhaps this should be revised to "Search sells".
