There are times when I could say “told you so”, or “you see?” but what would be the point?
When a site finally starts ranking for the dream keyword, or when a brand new site starts attracting inbound links, or a long neglected blog gets a dose of “query deserves freshness”, or google settles down and stops reporting false-postives in webmaster tools- these could all be “told you so” moments, but they’re not. Guess Why?
They’re not “told you so” moments because, while we’re confident they’ll happen there can be no guarantee in SEO. We’re confident they’ll happen because we know what we’re doing, but that is no comfort for a new client- it’s all about the first successes. Also, saying “told you so” to someone is really not a very clever way of going about things. “Told you so” suggests that there is a conflict of interests, “told you so” suggests that someone has the upper hand, and “told you so” is not a good way to educate and inspire people.
Our brand of SEO is as much about the black and white results as it is about the SEO journey, and making that potentially fraught journey as rewarding and beneficial as possible.
