Websites – Top Ten Do’s and Dont’s

Does your site “DO IT”

Ok so we are in the middle of what some may say is an “Economic Crisis” and many businesses out there will be reining in marketing budgets, making strategic cut backs and some even thinning out workforces. The time to focus on your online strategies and advertising has never been so important as it is now.

If you are an online business or use the facility of the www to showcase your products or services you will need to make sure that as well as other culling activities to your monetary arm, you need to pay attention to your online portal that is your website.

Too many businesses out there will spend the big bucks getting an all singing all dancing website developed for their business, have the flamboyant launch party and sit back and watch the leads/sales come in over the next few years!!

This is the first hurdle where most fail. The internet is now bigger than ever and a medium many are turning to in times where overheads need restricting. You need to be clever and stay current. Stay fresh and relevant, and most of all stay ahead of the game.

Working within the Pay Per Click Management game means that I see websites ten to the dozen day in day out and can I say I have seen some Picassos’ and some real rotters. We have the PPC Account knowhow to drive traffic to almost any site of clients that come knocking on our door for a PPC Manager. However as the honest type I have to encourage those who fall into the ”Rotter” category to spend their allocated PPC Budgets on their site and bring it into the 21st century.

I advise my current clients on PPC Landing pages that will drive more conversions and utilise their ad spend to its max potential, but how can we make people sign up, buy or fill in the contact us form. Simple answer is we can’t. All we can do is use our experience and PPC Landing Page Checklist to persuade the searcher to convert. This is impossible to do if the page is poor.

We use the PPC Landing Page as a tool to narrow down searchers and get them to their destination quicker and much more effectively this process can also be taken over to your site. In this time you need to be one with your potential clients and persuade them to use you or your services above others. Here are my top 10 do’s and Dont’s for a web site.

  1.  Do make sure that you have a clear grasp of what you want the site to achieve: Its no good being an online booking facility if the customer has to phone someone to book.
  2. Dont have pop ups riddled throughout your site: Experience tells us that a searcher becomes very frustrated with this sort of thing and leaves the site.
  3. Do use trusted pay systems: The use of Paypal or Google Checkout increases trust in searchers who are spending big bucks.
  4. Dont make your site complicated to navigate: Remember you are probably up against many other sites offering the same thing. Make yours the simplest to use.
  5. Do use good copy, grammar and punctuation: If they cant spell how can they sell?
  6. Dont Insult your customers: Remember to think what they want to hear its not about you, you, you! People do not want to hear all about you and your business, more emphasis is needed on why they should use you and what you will bring to them. Afterall its Them you are after…
  7. Do make booking Easy: If your site is using an online booking facility or a form make it user friendly. The searcher does not want to fill in what paper they read at the weekend and which team they support.
  8. Dont Hide: Never hide costs or terms that the client should be made aware of. If there is a delivery charge list it. Make clear all of the terms of service. Imagine finding the best deal online only to follow the buying cycle to find a 100% increase for booking and delivery.
  9. Do Check out the competition: Continuous checks on your competition to gain new ideas or areas of improvements on your site are essential. Keep your site up to date with new graphics and designs that maybe were not about 5 years ago when it was first built.
  10. Dont sit back: The common mistake is to build a site and sit back and forget it exists. If you are using Google Adwords to drive traffic to the site over time you will see trends of less conversions and clicks….Keep on the ball or fall at the first!

I hope this helps…………
