When to SEO your new website

11th February 2009 by Emily Mace

This is one that has come up a few times when we have been dealing with our clients – when should a new website have professional SEO input?

When you are building a new site, that has not been live before, get an SEO company to help you during the spec and build process of the site, this will help you to ensure that the site is built in an SEO friendly way rather than going through the build process and finding that the site needs to be significantly changed to enable it to become more SEO friendly.  This can be a costly nightmare when you are just launching a new website and if this can be avoided the process of launching your new site will be smoother for all concerned.

If you are redesigning an existing site, it’s good to get an SEO company involved early on too.  Not only will this ensure that the site is built in an SEO friendly way but that, as much as possible, the rankings and authority of your existing site are protected when the new site goes live.

When one of our clients is working on a new site we continue to optimise for the old site whilst looking at the new site on a test platform to ensure that the SEO goodness we have built on the site is transferred across.  We include in this advice and help with setting up the correct 301 redirects, advice on an SEO friendly CMS as well as the on page optimisation for the new site.
