Real time results – the quick fix to getting your Twitter account up to date

Hannah blogged earlier this month about what makes a Tweet rank in Google Real time search following an interview with someone at Google.  But what if you are not really using your Twitter account at the moment and want to take advantage of this?

Well there are a few things you can do to help with this process.

The first is to promote your Twitter feed to your visitors and customers both on your website and on email signatures, which will help you to get more followers, which was one of the criteria mentioned by Google.

The second is to get more content onto your Twitter account.  Although this might sound like hard work there is a solution.  If you run a WordPress blog on your site there is a WordPress plugin that allows retweeting of blog posts, the Tweet Me Button .  If you have a Blogger blog or a News Feed you have on your site then you can use something like a service like Twitter Feed to automatically populate your Twitter account with the latest items in the RSS feed these two services should have. You can also use this to promote other RSS feeds on your site if you have them.

The more news worthy the items you are posting to Twitter the more likely the content is to appear in the real time results in Google’s SERPs so using the news to create blog titles or having a news service on the site can help to increase the chances of your site appearing.

As we’ve mentioned before good quality content can be a really strong marketing tool for your website.
Using these techniques can help you make the most of Google’s real time results easily and without having to spend half of your day on Twitter.
