Google adds more messages to Google Webmaster Tools

Google announced on Monday that they have launched new messages to Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) about increases in crawl errors which could be of help to webmasters.

The Crawl Errors section of GWT lets you know if there are 404 errors, pages blocked by robots.txt or soft 404 errors on your website which can help you identify if there are any broken links or integrity issues on the crawling of your website.

The New messages Google have introduced will send webmasters a message if a greater number of crawl errors are detected on a site. This can be very useful when working on your website and it’s SEO as this can tell you if there has been a change in the way that Google is seeing the site, possibly caused by a change on the site. This could also have benefits if you launch a redesign of your website or a new section for the site as it’s another way you can ensure everything is working well on your website and that your visibility in Google is not affected by any changes you have made.

To make sure you receive these messages as quickly as possible it’s worth setting up email forwarding on the messages in GWT. To do this login to GWT and in the messages section of the homepage choose the Forward Emails drop down and select the email address you want messages forwarded to and the language you want to receive messages in.  Once you have done this messages will appear in GWT and be forwarded to your chosen email address as well.

Making sure you view these new messages about crawl errors and forward messages to your email if you don’t login to GWT very often are two more ways you can make the most of GWT.
