Google Adwords Product Extensions

A few months ago I wrote a blog regarding the adwords beta PlusBox testing, being rolled out to a select few UK adwords advertisers.

Finally Google look to have released the ‘PlusBox’ functionality as ‘Product Extensions’ to all US advertisers.

Product extensions allows advertisers to link their adwords account with their merchant centres to display relevant merchant centre listings, images and prices within text ads for the users search query.

Google will continue to charge on a CPC basis for clicks on the merchant centre listings that appear within text ads, however they will not charge for the initial click on the plus box to display the merchant centre/product listings.

Product Extensions work in a similar way to the ‘Product Listing Ads’ however you have greater control over which of your merchant centre listings appears in text ads. For example if you have a top selling product competitively priced, you can prefer to show this product in text ads for the related search queries. Alternatively you can automate merchant listings to allow Google to serve the most relevant products for a search query.
