Analytics accounts are gradually being upgraded to show the new Event Tracking section. I’ve had it appear on the first of the sites I track. It is one that uses the ga.js code, which is required for it to work.
Google themselves don’t seem to have blogged about it since the initial beta test launch in October last year There was a mini-mention of the beta in September when they put Analytics information onto Google Code. Perhaps they are waiting for some sort of critical mass on the rollout before they mention it?
Event tracking helps you track things like Flash-driven elements, either a whole site or for example a Flash video player, Embedded AJAX page elements, in page gadgets, file downloads and things like load times for data
