We’ve written a couple of times recently about hacked sites and the hosting of malware and it seems that this coincides with Google’s findings that a lot more sites are being compromised.
Here is a quite alarming graph showing the number of sites on their list of unsafe destinations over time:
These are the ones that show the “This site may harm your computer” message, which shows up in Google search, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari.
Vertical Leap have tracked several different infections over time, many of which can be tracked to hosting company compromises>. We even created an outbound links check tool when we couldn’t find one online, so that people could scan their own website for link insertions.
