As part of Google’s continual roll out of new services, Google Webmaster Tools have launched another new tool for webmasters. The new Keyword tool will show you the keywords Google finds as significant to your website.
While Google is crawling the content of your site it collects data about how often keywords are used on the pages across the website. This information is displayed in Google Webmaster Tools with a significance rating beside each keyword. This significance rating shows you how often the keyword was found across pages on your website, So the higher the significance rating on the site the more times Google found the keyword on pages throughout your website.
When reviewing this information you can also view what pages on your site contain that keyword by clicking on the keyword in the list. This will present you with a list of pages containing that word.
This tool could be useful in helping you work out if your website has been hacked as you will be able to see keywords in the list which are unrelated to your services and work out what pages they are on. This tool could then help you to resolve any issues that have come from your site having been hacked.
I’ve yet to spend much time analysing how useful this tool is for the SEO of websites but as soon as we have some data on this we’ll report back about this new tool and how else it can be used to help you with your website visibility in the SERPs.
