Today, Majestic SEO has announced that they have a web map index of more than one trillion unique URLs.
Apart from Google, who announced reaching this milestone last year this makes Majestic the biggest database of unique URLs on the web. Interestingly, as they point out, this validates Google’s claim that there are more than a trillion web pages on the internet.
I’m sure that Tim Berners Lee never foresaw the day when his invention of hyperlinked pages to form the World Wide Web would reach this kind of size!
MajesticSEO is a useful backlink research tool, and can be used for free on your own sites. Competitor sites backlinks can be downloaded for a small fee, so it makes for a really useful extra tool for finding out why a site ranks. I find it particularly useful for finding out if there are any old sites that are 301 redirected to a site, because this can be an otherwise “hidden” factor in a site’s rankings.
