New Content Vs Uniqueness

Having regularly updated new content on your website is an important element of the SEO of your website. Whether you do this using a content generation service or by writing your own blogs or news update, creating new content can help you increase your visibility in search engines whilst providing useful content for your visitors.

I mentioned in my blog last week that having a content generation strategy can help to increase the relevancy of your website which can help your rankings in the search engines. However there are some things to remember when putting together your new content.

Making sure that you are adding content regularly enough to your website should be the first part of your content strategy. If you begin adding content 3 times a week to your website, you should continue to do this so that the benefits of adding the content to your site are maintained.

If you employ a third part to provide content for your website make sure that this content is unique content written specifically for your website and not syndicated content supplied to more than one website.

If you are adding content to your site which also appears on one or more other places on the internet this will count in Google’s eyes as being duplicate content. Google’s Webmaster Guidelines are clear about not providing duplicated content on your website. The Guidelines state that if content is syndicated Google will always use the version of the content that they believe is most useful for people using their search engine. When Google finds more than one page with the same content on they will pick the content that they believe is the most relevant and won’t display the other pages in their search results. This means that when Google finds the new content on your website these new pages will likely not be indexed and so not be adding any value to your website.

So, if you are receiving content from a third party company make sure that this content is unique and written specifically for your website. Making sure that the new content that you add to your site is unique will not only provide your visitors with pages that they will find useful but you increase the chances of having this unique content indexed in Google.

Good quality unique content can help to increase the number of search visitors you have to your website. Long tail searches to your website can also increase if you are adding good quality content to your site on a regular basis.

When you add new pages to your website make sure that you use a keyword from your SEO campaign to create a link from the new content to the specific page of your website you are targeting with this website. This will help to reinforce the relevancy of your main pages.

Make sure that your content strategy is generating a high level of new pages on your website but is also creating unique content not used on any other websites, so that you can take advantage of the search benefits of these regular updates to your website.
