Reviewing Results from Google Caffeine

I’ve just been through the rather tedious task of comparing my clients’ results between Google UK and Google Caffeine. On the whole I much prefer the results in the Caffeine version, but that is entirely an optimiser’s client facing point of view!

I haven’t yet found anything I’ve been concerned about enough to use the “Dissatisfied” link to report, which is the feedback that Google are asking for. I think perhaps I need to give it a bit more of a thorough test on some of my “other” types of searching, e.g. searches for more normal day to day things rather than those specific to my clients needs.

I have done a few tests to see if they are using the same data and, for instance, our new blogs show up in both versions within minutes. Hard to tell many other ways if the base information is the same. A site: search often brings up more results for a site in Caffeine than non-caffeine.

Having a look through other people’s comments about differences, so people have cited news being different and others have cited Twitter and other social site results being more prominent.

I’ve noticed in some cases that forums/informational sites have gained over commercial sites in a very few searches, but none of them have been for high volume terms, so I’m not sure that is very significant. I will keep trying it out and seeing if there is anything significant to write more about.
