WordPress blogs and websites are all the rage at the moment not least because of the open source nature of the platform allowing developers to provide free SEO tools and plugins.
Over the course of the coming weeks and months, I will aim to provide pointers to the most popular plugins that are used for SEO.
The best place to find useful plug-ins is the Plugin Directory. At the last count there were 9,743 plugins listed of which 92,384,409 downloads have occurred. There is a very useful search filter allowing the user to sort by relevance, highest rated, newest, recently updated and most popular.
It is often the case that sub domains are used for blogs, therefore, it is imperative from an SEO perspective that an XML sitemap is created to ensure pages within the blog are crawled by search engines. There is of course many XML sitemap plugins, however, the most downloaded is the Google XML sitemaps. In addition to generating a xml sitemap, the plugin will automatically notify the major search engines each time a blog post is created.
