What Makes a Tweet Rank in Google real time search?

I read an interview with a Google chap yesterday where he shed some light on how Google selects Tweets to appear in it’s real time search.

In a nutshell – there were four main points:

1.)Number of followers (and an analogy was drawn between ranking a page more highly in organic search because of number of inbound links).

2.)The analogy continued in that it is not only the number of followers but also the reputation or quality of those followers.

3.)It seems Google is more likely to consider a post that is high in hashtags to be spam.

4.)With very popular search terms, Google evaluates whether the tweet is relevant to a real time search result by looking at the surrounding words to see if they are relevant to current news stories.
