Bing makes temporary boost to crawl rates

Yesterday Microsoft announced that it will be making some relevancy adjustments to its search engine marketing platform, adCenter. These adjustments involve a temporary increase to the Bing-bots crawl rates.

Writing on the Microsoft Advertising Community Blog, Tina Kelleher of the adCenter team says:

“Along with our consistent efforts to increase relevance for your adCenter campaigns, we will be temporarily increasing the rate at which your sites will be crawled to 20 to 30qps [queries per second].”

“This is within the accepted standards for crawl rates, and is vital to continuing to provide the most relevant advertising experience possible.”

The effects of this change could be seen if Microsoft’s search engine marketing platform seems unusually fast over the next few days, or by webmasters and SEO’s who notice a change in their sites traffic from Bing’s crawler. For users in the U.S and Canada, this change will also likely be seen on Yahoo – as part of their ‘Search Alliance’, Bing has replaced the Yahoo! Search bot and soon, adCenter will take over from Yahoo Search Marketing.

Following the post on the Microsoft Advertising Community blog, the team invite any adCenter users who have “any concerns with this increased rate” to contact their account management team, whilst any webmasters or other users with questions or concerns can leave comments on the blog itself.
