Alongside fellow online news provider the BBC, sports news channel Eurosport has just launched a new iPhone application, offering live video content of both its British Eurosport and British Eurosport 2 channels.
Digital Spy reports that the recently launched Eurosport Player app will allow users of the iPhone or iPod touch to watch live sports action or highlights from its two channels, including coverage of the Winter Olympics, Moto GP, Tour de France or the World Touring Car Championships.
Users based in the UK and Ireland will be able to download the sports content marketing app for free from the usual channels, but will be required to pay a subscription charge of £2.39 a month or £23.99 a year in order to access sporting event content.
Eurosport chairman, Laurent-Eric Le Fay commented on his company’s new project, saying: ”Sport is the perfect genre to enjoy through this exciting functionality, enabling fans to watch their favourite sporting events wherever they are, ensuring they never miss a second of the action.”
Le Fay continued, commenting: ”This new app will further reinforce Eurosport’s presence in the online community, making the best sport entertainment more accessible than ever.”
Eurosport’s app comes in the wake of the BBC media storm surrounding its proposed free app which will allow users to watch BBC news and sport free of any subscription fees. In addition, Sky recently permitted iPhone users to watch Premier League football matches, with its Sky Mobile TV platform.
