Google in talks with China about search

Search engine Google is rebooting its relationship with China as it prepares to begin talks with the Chinese government in order to discuss the future of its businesses and developing its search engine marketing  strategies in the country.

The search giant claimed it could not carry on co-operating with the Chinese censorship of search results after it was hit by a hacking attack last December. Google want to be civil and provide China with it’s search facility to make content easier to gather, but it is undecided if their previous relationship will resume.

The attack saw Gmail accounts being hacked into, including two Chinese political activists. Google said the attack was aimed at dozens of accounts, but luckily only two were breached. The company said it would review the feasibility of continuing business in China.

The Wall Street Journal reports that talks are restarting after a break for the Chinese Lunar New Year, but Google refused to comment on the matter. This comes after a piece of code was used to attack Google and 22 other companies, traced back to a hacker with links to the Chinese government.
