Google has launched an improved version of its YouTube mobile site, in a move that reflects the growing importance of mobile content marketing.
According to ITProPortal, the mobile version of the hugely popular video sharing site will now feature HTML 5 capabilities, improving performance on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.
Visitors to YouTube’s mobile site will also benefit from improved social networking features, making it easier to share video links with contacts on Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz.
The Guardian say that YouTube’s mobile site currently gets more than 100 million video playbacks per day, with an hour of video uploaded every minute from mobile devices.
The popularity of mobile video playback is expected to grow even further over the coming years, with mobile web browsing as a whole set to overtake traditional web browsing methods in the near future.
Google say that by improving the YouTube mobile site, it is responding to the evolving needs of mobile web users, as well as offering a better service for owners of mobile devices.
“Today, more than ever, YouTube knows that you want to be able to find and access your favourite videos wherever you are,” Google said in a statement quote by The Telegraph.
“As the world continues to go mobile, YouTube thinks this new site will offer a great improvement for anyone who wants a more consistent YouTube experience across devices,” the statement continued.
