Google TV, what’s next?

Google is at it again, in their search engine marketing competition they have now indicated that they would like to get involved with TV, by launching their own ‘Google TV’. Rumours did go round quite recently that Google was working on a TV search project with Dish Network, but now as Google do, they want to go further and be more directly involved with the television ecosystem.
According to reports from the New York Times, the search giant is partnering with Sony and Intel in a new Android-based platform, simply called Google TV. This network will consist of a set-top box, much like our freeview boxes at home, except this will allow users to search for videos online from their laptops or computers.
The set-top box will compete with the Roku set-top device, the Boxee Box and the Popbox. Games consoles which have the ability to stream content from Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand and others, could also be a competition for Google TV.
The main idea for this new service, is to give users an interface to access social networking sites like Twitter, as well as to be able to look through photos on their TVs from other sharing sites, like Picasa.
It is reported that Google is already a few months underway with their new project, though Google have not yet commented.
