Mobile search engine marketing can now be tracked by Analytics

Thanks to improvements from Google, the company’s free Analytics software is now able to track mobile search visits without the need for specific tracking codes.

Before these improvements, anyone hoping to track the reach and traffic of search engine marketing on mobile platforms was required to use a combination of advanced filters and regular expressions. This involved a fairly high level of expertise and familiarity with the Analytics package.

Now, the ‘visitors’ tab on Analytics includes a drop down menu for mobile traffic data. Users can check where mobile traffic is coming from either by device – such as Iphone, Blackberry or Android smartphones – and by mobile carriers. By combining this information with keyword data in Analytics, search engine marketing for mobile users can be optimised more efficiently and the reach and effectiveness of AdWords campaigns can be tracked.

The tool will also help target SEO services for the ever expanding mobile internet market. Now, you can see which keywords have the biggest reach among mobile users. Plus for PPC marketing, by creating an advanced segment for mobile devices and applying it to the content reports page you can see how mobile visitors navigate your site. This will allow users to optimise landing page URLS for PPC ads to increase conversion rates.
