New AdWords editor released

The latest version of Google’s AdWords Editor has been released for both Windows and Mac users, bringing a range of new features to make it easier to take advantage of Google’s new search engine marketing features.

Version 8.01 of the AdWords Editor’s main improvement on the previous edition is that it fully supports location extensions, the recently introduced system for local advertising via Google. A new Extensions tab can be seen in the AdWords editor and the old Local Business Ads tab has been removed, whilst local business ads held in all AdWords accounts have been made compatible with location extensions.

The new editor also features an improved interface with several changes to the GUI. As well as more helpful error messages, the new version of the tool has collapsible and expandable panels as well as accurate progress bars for tasks “that can take some time.”

“After you install the new version, you’ll need to download your account again,” says Jason Shafton of the Inside Adwords Crew. “We’re launching version 8.0.1 to all users over the course of the next few weeks so don’t worry if you don’t get it right away.”

In addition to the new version of the editor software, Google has improved the location extensions format for mobile advertisers. Now, advertisers will be able to list several addresses for a business within a given location on Google maps if they have more than one store/outlet within the area when targeting Android mobile devices. Although these are PPC ads, advertisers are only charged when users click on the website URL or the phone icon displayed on the details page of a particular business location.

“Location extensions with multiple addresses launched for desktop earlier this summer and we’ve worked hard to bring it to mobile,” says Surojit Chatterjee, Google Mobile Ads Product Manager. “For now, this feature is only available on Android devices but we hope to expand to other platforms in the near future.”
