Search engine marketing: Yahoo and Bing up in US

Search engine marketing news has shown that Yahoo and Bing have grown in the search market by 7 per cent in the US in March. This means a total of 15.4 billion searches took place between the two search engines, compared to 14.4 billion carried out in February.

The figures are according to research carried out by comScore, which also showed that Ask.com surprisingly increased their overall searches by 11 per cent, which gives them an overall search engine market share of 3.8 per cent. Yahoo received 2.6 billion searches and Bing rose to 1.8 billion searches.

However, unsurprisingly in the UK, Google are still leading the search market. Hitwise reported that Google have increased their search share from 90 per cent last month to 91.2 per cent this month. The search engine increased their search advertising income by over 20 per cent in the first quarter, while Yahoo increased their ad revenue by 3 per cent.

One of the major movers within the search market was from a social networking site, which isn’t even a search engine. In comScore’s expanded search list, Facebook saw a massive 48 per cent rise in their search volume during March. It received 647 million searches, which helped Facebook overtake Google in US internet market share last month.

These figures show that the UK sticks to what they know, by opting to use Google for all their search needs, which is why it remains dominant. Bing has grown considerably and quickly in other places such as Singapore and Canada, rather than in the UK. For those in global markets, search engine facts and figures are vital tools in developing visibility.
