SeeSaw goes live

SeeSaw, the new TV content generation service has today gone live amidst a multitude of commentary from media experts.

The Arquiva owned, free to use service will offer the most encompassing selection of television content on one site – having content agreements with the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and other production companies. Last month in its beta format, SeeSaw was trialled amongst 20,000 people who offered feedback on the service before its release.

The Telegraph reports that SeeSaw will go live with over 3,000 hours of content, however, such content will not include ITV who as yet have not signed a deal. This is rumoured to be due to an ITV 10 week shake-up review by new chairman Archie Norman.

SeeSaw hopes to become a ”one stop shop” for broadcast content online, hoping to generate revenue from the growing numbers of viewers who need to catch up on their favourite TV show or wish to watch it at a different time to its normal schedule.

Pierre-Jean Serbert, chief executive of SeeSaw announced to The Telegraph that: ”We estimate that there are two and a half million people in the UK regularly watching TV via video on demand services such as the BBC iPlayer”.

Serbert continued, breaking down SeeSaw’s marketing objectives: ”We are initially targeting this group via an online advertising campaign and then moving our marketing efforts onto TV in order to capture the 13 million people who have used both linear and web TV services”.

Last year, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 were planning on creating a similar venture to SeeSaw but their attempt known as ‘Project Kangaroo’ was denied by the Competition Commission.
