Trusted SEO agencies are best for the job, according to one industry expert.
Loving Outdoors founder Scott Woodhead says that as the internet is defined by ‘frankness, honesty and transparency,’ online firms should follow the same philosophy and be open with customers in everything they do.
In a guest post for Econsultancy, the internet entrepreneur claims that too many online businesses still operate in a cloak-and-dagger fashion, withholding important information and hiding behind technical jargon.
Woodhead says that customers deserve respect, and that online firms can show this deference by increasing their openness and, above all, admitting and apologising when things go wrong.
Trust is a fundamental part of the SEO process, with business owners investing a great deal of faith in specialists to improve their company’s fortunes.
At the same time, the nature of SEO means that cast-iron guarantees of success can never be made, so the best agencies are those that keep their clients updated on all the latest developments – good or bad.
Woodhead urges online firms to move away from a culture of secrecy and display more transparency, and remember that customers are real people who deserve to be treated with honesty.
“The tendency is to try to hang on to old style privacy, to lurk behind the barest minimum of marketing speak, revealing very little – and then only a manipulated upside,” Woodhead said.
“Never forget that the digital world is at heart also a human world. Treat your customers as human beings, and that includes saying sorry when you get it wrong,” he added in his Econsultancy blog post.
