Online marketing will make up the most part of advertising spend for travel companies in 2010, according to a new report. Bigmouthmedia’s 2010 Travel Report was compiled from a survey which asked travel clients and users of tnooz.com various questions.
The report revealed that the e-marketing proportion of overall budgets will grow from 50 per cent, to 57 per cent in the coming year. It found that around 60 per cent of respondents also suggested that search engine optimisation and social media budgets will increase over the next year.
Senior travel strategist at bigmouthmedia, Anneli Ritari said: “There can be little doubt that the travel industry now truly appreciates the power and reach of digital marketing, with the proportional spend rocketing upwards from only 38% in 2008. However, with a clear majority of firms indicating that they see engaging with social media as a major challenge, it seems that many in the industry are struggling to develop effective strategies for these emerging channels.”
Currently, the development of social media strategies is considered to be one of the biggest challenges facing the travel industry.
Another survey also by bigmouthmedia, and Econsultancy which covered all industries, found that 86 per cent of UK companies plan to boost spending on social media launches in 2010, as it is seen as a very useful web marketing tool.
