Yahoo! and Twitter have expanded on their formal partnership this month, with the Yahoo! homepage now offering users the ability to tweet directly from the site.
Twitter has, over the past year, made arrangements with all three of the major search engines; Bing, Google and Yahoo! have all integrated Twitter into their search results. However, Yahoo! has now expanded upon this partnership, allowing users to link their Twitter feed to their Yahoo! account and Tweet directly from the Yahoo! web portal.
Official comment on the development was offered in the signature fashion of the social media content generation tool; a 140 character text statement from Yahoo’s senior vice president of the consumer products group, Bryan Lamkin:
“We’re turning the key to the online social universe – you will find the most personally relevant experiences through Yahoo!”
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone gave a slightly longer statement, hinting at how this deal will benefit his brand. In a rather unconventional form of search engine marketing, placing Twitter directly on the Yahoo! pages will offer a huge boost of exposure to the millions of worldwide users of the second-most popular search engine and online services provider.
“The information in one single tweet can travel light-years farther with this Yahoo! integration” said Stone. “Tweets in more places brings relevance where and when you need it most.”
