Yahoo and Microsoft still on track for search engine marketing integration

Microsoft’s senior vice president has said that the integration of Bing search technology and the AdCentre search engine marketing platform with Yahoo! Search should be finished before the start of the Christmas holiday season.

Speaking at the Search Marketing Expo in Seattle, Yusuf Medhi said that his company wants to implement the Bing search technology on Yahoo before the end of the holiday season so that it can capture the seasonal traffic boost.

“Right now, Yahoo engineers are joining Microsoft and they’re sharing ideas,” said Medhi during his keynote speech. “We will power the algorithm results and the paid search results – Yahoo has flexibility to add things on top.”

This seems to confirm that the integration of the two search engines is on track with goals previously stated on the Yahoo Search Marketing blog, where PPC advertisers were reassured that the transition to Microsoft’s platform would result in minimal disruption to their service.

The Microsoft Blog at Seattle Pacific University reports that in the rest of his speech, Medhi spoke about how Bing had developed in the year-and-a-week since it was first launched in the US on June 3rd 2009.

He says that the company is pleased the performance of the rebranded Live Search but that it is taking a proactive approach to research and development for its “decision engine”. However, Medhi said that the biggest challenge for Bing was simply getting people to try it out.
